Strengthening Volunteer Boards Workshop

The Town of Pincher Creek Parks, Recreation and Community Services and Board Development Program (Alberta Culture & Tourism) will be hosting a workshop on Strengthening Volunteer Boards.
 
Would you like to enhance your skills as a Board Member?
 
As a board member of a not-for-profit organization, have you ever wondered… 

• What are my legal and ethical responsibilities?
• What role do I play in governing our organization?
• How can our board organize its work and fairly and efficiently to avoid volunteer and staff burnout?
• How can we develop policies that will help us make consistent decisions?
• How can we encourage teamwork between the board and staff?

If you’re a new board member wanting to learn more about your role, or an experienced board member wishing to enhance your skills and work effectively as a team member then…..this workshop is for you.
 
Attend by yourself or with another member of the board.  (Please note that workshop content will focus on incorporated not-for-profit organizations.)  Limit of 3 board members per organization please.

SAVE THE DATE! Volunteer Program Development Workshop, September 13

Following the success of our first Volunteer Program capacity-building workshop for community service organizations (read about it here!), delivered last fall in Pincher Creek, we are planning to deliver the workshop again in the Crowsnest Pass!  

This free workshop aims to help community service organizations design and deliver a compelling volunteer program.  The workshop will explore the motivations and expectations behind volunteering, potential barriers to volunteering, and possible solutions.  The workshop also will examine the essential qualities of the volunteer experience that ensure both the volunteer and the service organization achieve meaningful outcomes.  

To deliver this program, SASCI has partnered with highly regarded Canadian consultants, Chris Jarvis and Angela Parker of Realized Worth, who specialize in providing training and hands-on involvement in the design and implementation of outstanding and sustainable volunteer programs in both the private and public sectors.  

We will run the program on Thursday September 13.  Typically, the program runs from about 9 am to 3 pm. Lunch will be provided.

We'll confirm the timing and venue closer to the day.  Meanwhile, if your community service organization or non-profit wants to do a better job of attracting committed, enthusiastic volunteers, plan to attend this workshop!  To help us in our planning, please let us know if you are interested in attending.  We hope to have as many different groups participating as possible, but there's lots of room!

Volunteer Program Development Workshop, September 22

On Thursday, September 22nd, SASCI will be hosting a free workshop aimed at helping community service organizations to design and deliver a compelling volunteer program.  The workshop will explore the motivations and expectations behind volunteering, potential barriers to volunteering, and possible solutions.  The workshop will also include an examination of the essential qualities of the volunteer experience that ensure both the volunteer and the service organization achieve meaningful outcomes.  Finally, participants will work through a design process in which these learnings are applied to the real-world situation in their home organizations.

To deliver this program, SASCI has partnered with highly regarded Canadian consultants, Chris Jarvis and Angela Parker of Realized Worth (http://realizedworth.blogspot.com/), who specialize in providing training and hands-on involvement in the design and implementation of outstanding and sustainable volunteer programs in both the private and public sectors.   

Space is limited in this workshop; to engage as many community service organizations as possible, we may limit participation to one individual per organization.  The workshop will be held in Pincher Creek, but organizations from other parts of southwest Alberta are welcome to participate.  The workshop will run from 9 am to 3 pm; lunch will be provided.  Additional details will be provided soon to registered participants.
