Policy Title: Recognition of Funders and Supporters

Date First Passed: June 25, 2009

Date(s) Amended:  October 21, 2010

This policy pertains to the manner in which SASCI will recognize and acknowledge the contributions of Funders and Supporters, including the granting by SASCI of rights and privileges to Funders and Supporters.  SASCI’s policies with respect to Sponsors are addressed separately.

Funders

A “Funder”, as defined by SASCI, is an agency, department, organization, company, or individual or group of individuals that or who provide(s) to SASCI core financial support for the purpose of carrying out a specific and defined project.

Funders will be recognized and acknowledged by SASCI in all project-related publications, advertising, and/or events, and, at least once in the year funding is provided, in regional media publications.  Notwithstanding, recognition and acknowledgement will be undertaken in accordance with requirements established in consultation with the Funder.  Funders may identify themselves as a Funder of the specific project to which their financial support has been directed.

Supporters

A “Supporter”, as defined by SASCI, is an agency, department, organization, company, or individual or group of individuals that or who provide(s) to SASCI core financial support for the purpose of carrying out SASCI’s mission.  Supporter contributions are not allocated to a specific project or program, and may be used to cover operational expenses.  Supporter contributions may include in-kind donations of time or equipment.

It is recognized that contributions to SASCI create reputational and other potential value for Supporters by association with SASCI.  Therefore, the rights and privileges granted by SASCI to Supporters will be commensurate with the proportion of their contribution relative to the operational budget of SASCI.  Initial supporting levels are outlined below; these may be revised from time to time as considered appropriate by the Board of Directors.

Platinum Supporter

A Platinum-level Supporter makes a core financial contribution in any calendar year of more than $10,000.

Gold Supporter

A Gold-level Supporter makes a core financial contribution in any calendar year of more than $5,000.

Silver Supporter

A Silver-level Supporter makes a core financial contribution in any calendar year of $2,500 or more, up to $5,000.

Bronze Supporter

A Bronze-level Supporter makes a financial contribution in any calendar year of $500 or more, up to $2,500.

For greater clarity, membership fees do not constitute supporting contributions.  However, the membership fee may be waived for a Supporter or deducted from a supporting contribution.

Supporter Recognition

A Supporter that or who has made a financial contribution to SASCI in any calendar year is entitled to identify themselves in corporate or organizational communications as a Supporter of SASCI.  However, only a Supporter that or who has made a core financial contribution to SASCI of at least $2,500 in any calendar year (i.e., Silver-level Supporter or higher) is entitled to use the SASCI logo in such communications.  Supporters will have first right of refusal on any sponsorship opportunities, such opportunities to be made available to Supporters in order according to the scale of their contribution.  SASCI will acknowledge Supporters on its website (as soon as practical in the website development cycle).  SASCI also will acknowledge Supporters at least annually in regional media publications.  In addition, SASCI may acknowledge Supporters at the time their support is received, again in regional media publications.

Founding Supporter

A “Founding Supporter” has made a core financial contribution (considered to be $2,500 or more) to SASCI in every year since the establishment of SASCI in 2002.  In addition to the above privileges, a Founding Supporter may identify themselves as such in corporate or organizational communications.  SASCI will acknowledge Founding Supporters on its website (as soon as practical in the website development cycle).

Supporter Continuity

Supporters who have made a core financial contribution (as defined above) in consecutive years may state, in corporate or organizational publications that they have been “a Supporter of SASCI since [the first year in which they made a core financial contribution]”.

Applicability of Rights and Privileges

For greater clarity, where a Supporter is an organization or group, benefits are available only to the contributing organization or group and are not transferable to the individual participants or employees of the organization or group.
