Who We Are
One of SASCI's strengths lies in the breadth and depth of the knowledge and experience of its staff and Directors, and their belief in and commitment to the purpose of the organization. The structure of the Board, with seats designated for key sectors of the community, was designed to promote the representation of a wide range of views in Board deliberations and activities. Each Director is expected to understand and communicate the issues, concerns, and perspectives of his/her designated community sector. From time to time, Directors may consult other stakeholders in their designated sector to enhance understanding of community views on a specific issue and to disseminate information about SASCI programs and activities.
SASCI’s Board of Directors meets monthly, and routinely reviews progress of every SASCI program and initiative. Many Directors commit extra time to participate in committee work, deliver SASCI services, such as facilitation and moderation, engage stakeholders, and advance key projects to promote community sustainability.
SASCI's Board comprises 12 seats. Directors are elected to the Board by SASCI's members at the Annual General Meeting. To ensure continuity, only half of the Directors stand for election in any one year. Directors serve a two-year term, but there is no limit on the number of terms. Any SASCI member in good standing is eligible to be nominated for and elected to the Board of Directors. The Executive Officers (Chair, Vice-Chair, Secretary and Treasurer) are elected by the Board following the AGM.
SASCI's Manager, supported by the Board and volunteers, coordinates SASCI’s programs and services.
